Eika Coin: the settlement layer for Scandinavian banking

Scandinavian banking moves information instantly and money slowly. Eika Coin is our answer to that gap: a digital settlement layer designed so value transfer between people, businesses and institutions is immediate, programmable and auditable by construction.

It is not yet available. This page describes what we are building and the principles behind it.

What it is

Eika Coin is infrastructure, not a speculative asset. Its purpose is to settle obligations between parties in the Scandinavian financial system at the speed the rest of the stack already operates at.

That framing drives every design decision. A settlement layer is judged on finality, cost, and whether a supervisor can reconstruct what happened and why. It is not judged on throughput records or on the market price of a token, and we are not building it to compete on either.

The work is being done in Oslo, in the same regulatory environment as the institutions it is intended to serve.

Designed around the market

Instant settlement

Nordic payments clear quickly for consumers but still settle slowly between institutions. Eika Coin is designed so that the transfer and the settlement are the same event, removing the interbank delay rather than hiding it behind a progress bar.

Programmable by default

Conditional transfers, escrow, recurring obligations and automated reconciliation are expressed as rules on the transaction itself, so treasury logic no longer has to live in batch jobs at the edge of the banking stack.

Built for three currencies

Moving money between NOK, SEK and DKK is still treated as cross-border. Eika Coin is designed around a single settlement layer spanning the Scandinavian market, with transparent conversion at the point of transfer.

Compliance in the protocol

Identity, sanctions screening and reporting obligations are designed into the transaction lifecycle rather than reconstructed afterwards from logs, so supervisory reporting can be produced from the ledger itself.

Why we are building it

EikaAI is building a banking experience that reasons about a customer's finances and acts in their interest. That intelligence is limited by the rails underneath it. Advice that can be acted on in seconds is worth more than advice that has to wait for a settlement window.

Eika Coin closes that loop. The reasoning layer decides what should happen; the settlement layer makes it happen immediately and leaves a record precise enough to audit. Neither half reaches its potential without the other, which is why we are building both rather than renting one.

Path to launch

01

Protocol design

Settlement model, ledger architecture and the compliance data model, developed against Norwegian and EU regulatory requirements.

02

Controlled pilot

Closed testing with partner institutions on non-production volume, prioritising auditability and operational resilience over throughput benchmarks.

03

Supervised rollout

Phased availability in coordination with regulators and partner banks, beginning with a single corridor before extending across the Scandinavian market.
